Pre-School Summer Term

6th Jun 2021

We have had a very busy summer term in Pre-School!

We started the term by learning about minibeasts and life cycles. As part of this topic we observed our class caterpillars grow and change as over the weeks they transformed from caterpillar to chrysalis, into beautiful butterflies before our very own eyes! The children named our butterflies James, Nectar and Bee and when they were strong enough we released them into the school garden.

We then moved on to learn about dinosaurs. Through playdough, ice and sand play the children also developed awareness of fossils, bones and other types of prehistorical evidence, such as cave paintings. The children even enjoyed building their own caves, both indoors and outdoors.

We then explored animals and their habitats through our jungle and under the sea topics. The children considered the characteristics of different animals such as print and texture to create some fantastic artwork. This creativity continued on into snack-time as they created more animals with pancakes and fruits!

Our role play areas this term have transformed from the vet to the shoe shop to the optician as we continue to develop children’s understanding of the different roles of people and places in the local community. A big thank you to our parents who were able to donate some fabulous resources to really bring our role-play areas to life!
