Life at Nursery (Part Time Class)

A TYPICAL DAY IN PRE-SCHOOL
The Nursery day begins at 8.45 when you and your child will be personally greeted by the Nursery staff on arrival. Children will independently enter the room, self-register and hang up their own coat. Our staff are always on hand to support children, as each child will develop independence and self-help skills at their own pace, however we encourage our children to become as independent as possible.

Children are then free to choose their own learning experiences from a range of activities including role play in our home corner, water play, playdough, small world play, construction, books, puzzles, painting at the easel and daily arts and crafts activities.

Children are also encouraged to visit our snack table where they will independently select from a buffet of breads, cereals, fruits and vegetables. They will sit with friends, independently spreading and pouring their own drinks, as they eat together.

Following play, we tidy up together and prepare for outdoor play. We put on our own coats and wellies, if required, and the children are free to explore the climbing frame, sand house, trikes and scooters, digging yard, mud kitchen, outdoor house and large construction bricks.

At the end of every day we join together for music, rhyme and story-time. The Nursery  day ends at 11.15am/12.15pm when you will collect your child (and occasionally, numerous items of artwork!) from a member of staff, who will be happy to update you on your child’s day and can answer any questions you may have.

CONTACT WITH PARENTS
The Nursery operates an ‘Interactive Open-Door' policy, where all our staff welcome parents in a supportive environment and where the expression of views, thoughts and opinions is appreciated and valued.

Mrs Law, together with Miss Curry, publishes a monthly newsletter to keep parents informed of upcoming events, themes and topics and ways you can further support your child’s learning at home. We also use Seesaw to post photos of your child at play, to encourage this home-school link, and we enjoy seeing photos uploaded by parents of special trips and occasions, which your child may wish to share with us.

Over the year we will offer one formal parent/teacher meeting and a written report on your child’s progress. If, however, you or we have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress at any time, we will work together to support them, our door is always open!

On enrolment all parents will be provided with a Parent Information Booklet, which will outline Nursery procedures.
